Wednesday's Walk with Neil

Our Neighbourhood

This was the sky in front of our house today. It was very strange looking!

This is a front lawn in our neighbourhood.
The whole lawn consists of flowers, plants, and trees.
It's like a little fairyland forest! Very cozy!

I love sunflowers!

Neil's Blog #4

Neil, the Shetland Sheepdog, here again!

Mom and Dad went to Port Perry today (northeast of Toronto). Mom never likes leaving me at home so they brought me with them. We had a lovely day walking around and enjoying the sights. They had ice cream (I didn’t have any). My mom would never let me have something like that. Not good for dogs at all! They brought water and kibble for me. They always take care of my needs. They searched all over for an outdoor patio so they could enjoy a snack and a glass of wine where I could join them. No such luck!  We then decided to go to the best outdoor patio EVER! We headed home and they enjoyed leftover Chinese food and wine out on our deck! I dined on kibble and had a nap. Life is good.

Also, on the way home they stopped for some freshly picked Ontario strawberries at a roadside stand. I will probably get a strawberry or two later…

Love,
Neil

Neil’s Blog #3

Neil, the Shetland Sheepdog, here. I had my first official winter walk this week.  My mother put my boots on! Well, we did have a centimetre (3/8 of an inch) of snow, after all. I had two compliments too! Red boots have a tendency to stand out. Red is my colour.

I also had my teeth cleaned this week. Not a simple procedure. I had to be put out while it was done. I was pretty groggy when I came home. My mother took very good care of me. She has cleaned my teeth every day since! Not cool, but I guess it has to be done. My mother fusses over me. She loves me a lot. Bye!

Love,
Neil

Neil's Blog #2

Neil, the Shetland Sheepdog, here again. It finally happened. I have been living with that wretched cat for 2 ½ years now and she swipes at me all the time. Just for the record, I don’t and never will understand cats. Yesterday we got a little too close face to face so she swiped at me. Usually she swipes at me as I am running away and nothing happens because I have such thick fur. She scratched my nose (the black leather part) and it was bleeding! I didn’t cry out (I am so strong), but my mother ran over to me to see if I was okay and then she saw the blood. Of course she freaked out and has been spoiling me even more than usual ever since. I don’t think there will be a noticeable scar. Thank goodness! It would have made me look like a rogue. A rogue dogue! Woof!
All for now!
Yours truly,

Neil

Dog Attack (Averted)

Neil and I were out walking yesterday. All was well. We were strolling along and then I heard a man yelling back behind us. I turned around and saw him across the street with two large black dogs, both on leashes. He must have accidently dropped one of the leashes and one of the dogs started running after us at full speed dragging his leash behind him! The dog paused for a moment (hearing his owner) and then kept after us. I froze! Was this dog friendly? Or would he attack my dog? Even from a distant I could see that the hair on his back was up and he didn’t look very friendly. I wasn’t going to take any chances. I quickly lifted Neil up as high as I could. The dog was right there beside me. He was very aggressive, trying to jump up and snapping. Fortunately, I am not afraid of dogs (good because they can smell fear). I said, “down, down, go home,” as forcefully and as confidently as I could, turning away from him. The dog finally turned and went home. Meanwhile the owner was still yelling for the dog to come, but the man never left his driveway. I kept walking while still holding Neil in my arms. My heart was pounding and my hands were shaking. Thank God Neil didn’t get hurt. I wasn’t even concerned about myself, only Neil. I can’t even imagine what could have happened if I hadn’t lifted him up. Maybe the other dog would have settled down and been fine. On the other hand, he could have bitten, or worse, even attacked Neil. I will never know, but I am glad I didn’t take that chance.
